Perfecting the Kettlebell Turkish Get Up 

During kettlebell courses Malaysia, the Turkish get-up is taught in the level 1 certification. The TGU is an extremely popular and effective exercise that develops strength and balance throughout your whole body. It is also extremely useful in improving stability and creating tension so that you can move about easily in different positions in your daily life. 

Basics of the Get Up

As mentioned above, the get up is a complex workout that combines several positions and movement patterns into one mind-blowing workout.  These are the roll to press, one-fourth to elbow, half to hand, knee to hand, the lunge position and finally the stand up. 

As part of your Malaysia kettlebell certification, you must do this exercise under the guidance of one of our expert Malaysian kettlebell instructors.

Doing the Get up Correctly 

Lie in a foetal position on your right side and place the kettlebell by the side of your ribcage with the handle positioned parallel to your body. Grip the bell firmly with your right hand so that the handle rests straight across your palm. 

Put your left hand over the right wrist and position the kettlebell on your stomach so that your right hand is now bent at ninety degree angle. Now roll on to your back, keeping both legs stretched out at about shoulder width distance. Press the bell overhead and position it straight at arm’s length. 

Bend the right leg till the knee is about ninety degrees with your foot lying flat on the ground. Place your left hand on the ground at an angle of about forty five degree to your body. 

This is your basic position from which you will actually start the get up as part of kettlebell courses Malaysia. 

Roll to Press 

With this movement, you begin to raise your body from the ground. Initiate the movement by digging the right foot into the ground. 

Maintain a straight alignment so that as you dig your right foot, your right shoulder and right hip is rolled off the ground simultaneously. Remember not to move the left hand at all. 

One-fourth to Elbow

Take a deep breath and dig the left hand into the ground and roll on to your left elbow. Exhale and hold position till you are stable. 

Half to Hand

Once you are well balanced on your left elbow, roll over further and rest your weight on your left palm. You should now be sitting upright with your chest up and shoulders pushed down and back. 

Knee to Hand 

With your entire weight balanced on your left hand and right foot, lift your hip to create a space so that you can pull your left leg backwards underneath you. At this position, your left hand will be in alignment with your hips. 

The Lunge Position 

Push your hips backward at forty five degree angle and put your weight on your feet. Remove the left hand from the ground so that you are positioned in a kneeling lunge pattern. 

The Stand Up

Press the toes on your left foot and drive your body upward. Once you are standing, keep feet hip width apart and ensure that the arm holding the kettlebell overhead is perfectly straight and in line with your ear. Want to train online? Check out our online courses!
